Material and Trim Temperature Limits

Blow Down service is the removal of hot water, usually from the bottom of a boiler to lower the amount of solids building up in the boiler water. When this hot water is removed it is usually vented to atmosphere. With this sudden pressure drop, the hot water “flashes” to steam, usually within the valve. This creates a highly erosive condition within the valve, which along with the high velocities and suspended solids is very harmful to a standard valve’s trim.
